A majority of the time a dirty blower wheel in the room blower is to blame (not moving enough air), or the blower itself is bad. IF you cannot freely spin the blower wheel, replace the blower.
The exhaust blower pushes the gases out of a narrow pipe in the back of the stove. This pipe can be vented into an existing chimney or connected to the outside through a small hole.
If your blower is continually running, then you know there's something going on with the combustion blower. But if your blower stops running while you're burning pellets, then you need a new pro.
If you run the stove without the blower on, you might get away with a slow burn without overheating the blower, but a medium/hot fire will soon heat the blower to the point where the snap disc cuts power to the auger feed.
You don't want to have buildup thicker than a quarter of an inch in your stoves venting pipes, you should check this regularly until it has reached this point. Cleaning is usually an annual maintenance for most vent pipes, however this will vary with different pellet stoves.
Start by removing all the pellets from the stove. Vacuum out all debris and ash. Inspect the hopper, auger plate, and pressure/latch switches for debris or wear. Clean or vacuum the chimney, removing all the ash from the liner.
Pellet stoves should be cleaned on a weekly basis, which should include removing ash and scraping the burn pot. You'll also want to perform a more extensive pellet stove deep clean once per year, when the burning season is done, which includes a thorough cleaning of the firebox, fans, and venting.
A pellet stove will typically have two fans. One for combustion, which supplies the fire with oxygen rich air, and one for heat convection to circulate the heat into the room. Both fan speeds can be adjusted with thermostatic controls on the panel.
Plug the test wire into a power strip with the power switched off, then plug the power strip into the wall. Stabilize the convection blower and turn the surge protector on. The fan should spin with low noise and vibration.
If your fan isn't working, the following components may be responsible: Wire connections: Yellow wires connect a Pit Boss fan to the control board. With the grill unplugged, remove the hopper to view the control board and verify the wires are connected. If they aren't, detach and then reattach them.
